Cantwell Statement on Attack in Libya

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement regarding the attack on the American Consulate in Libya, which killed the United States Ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, and three American staff members.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Ambassador Chris Stevens and the other victims of this senseless and horrific attack. Ambassador Stevens spent his career in the Foreign Service, proudly serving our nation in Libya, Egypt, Israel, Syria and Saudi Arabia. His brave service to our country will never be forgotten.

“I join President Obama and Secretary Clinton in condemning this terrible attack, which killed Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans at the consulate in Benghazi.

“Today, all Americans give thanks to the brave diplomats supporting freedom and democracy across the globe. We pray for their safety and we join them in mourning this tremendous loss to the diplomatic community.”
