Cantwell Statement on Memorial Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement on Memorial Day:

“On Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who died honorably fighting for our country and protecting our way of life. Today, we show as a nation that we will never forget those whose sacrifices we can never repay.

“We also thank veterans and those still serving in our Armed Forces here and around the world. I celebrate the men and women from Washington state who have given so much to our nation, including the citizen soldiers serving in the National Guard and Reserves. I’ve met many service members at Washington’s military bases whose bravery and dedication I will never forget. I feel tremendous appreciation and respect for military families – the children, siblings, parents, and spouses who have had loved ones in harm’s way.

“It is now our duty to look out for our veterans, including those returning home after more than a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. We owe it to them and to the memories of those who have fallen. We must be vigilant in ensuring that every one of them gets the care they deserve from a grateful nation.”
