Senator Maria Cantwell and her Mother on the upcoming House Budget

This Mother's Day, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell was joined by her own mother at the Kawabe Memorial House in Seattle. She spoke about the House budget, which would bring big changes to Medicare and Medicaid. The so-called Ryan budget would make deep cuts to Medicare, transitioning it into a voucher system. Medicaid would be paid for with block grants, each state responsible for any increases.  Senator Cantwell says these proposed changes would shift the burden unfairly to those who can't afford to pay more, such as the seniors and others on fixed incomes. She said that these cuts are not the right way to balance the budget.

Last Thursday Senator Cantwell, along with 49 other Senators, sent a letter to President Obama urging him to oppose the House Budget.
