Recovery Package Provides Washington state with Funding to Improve Ferry Services

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) announced that Washington state will receive $750,000 in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to build a new ferry terminal building in Anacortes.

“The Ferry line is critically important to the people living on Guemes Islandsaid Cantwell. “This funding will not only make needed improvements to the ferry system, it makes a long-term investment in public transportation and infrastructure in Anacortes that creates jobs in this community.”

The new ferry terminal will serve the Guemes Island Ferry line, which averages 400,000 annual passengers and is the only public transportation service to the island.
