Cantwell Selected as Navy League Honorary Member
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Seattle Council of the Navy League awarded U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) with an honorary membership yesterday. Tom Jaffa, president of the Seattle Council and a National Director of the organization, presented the award to Sen. Cantwell for her work in supporting a continuous naval, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine presence in Puget Sound.
“Terrorism is a threat to Americans both abroad and here at home, and we need to support the men and women who are working to make our nation safer,” said Cantwell. “I am honored to be a part of the Navy League because of its hard work supporting members of the sea services and their family members.”
The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian organization. The 600 members of the Seattle Council of the Navy League are dedicated to supporting the men and women of the sea services and their families and educating the public, including elected officials, about the sea services.
