Cantwell Statement on Progress of Spokane International Airport’s Improvements to Runway

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety and Security, released the following statement marking the progress of Spokane International Airport’s runway construction. At an event today, the airport marked the halfway point of the runway project.

“In February I visited Spokane and discussed the importance of investing in our airport infrastructure for safety and continued economic growth,” Senator Cantwell said. “Now, with construction continuing on time on Spokane International Airport’s runway, the flying public is closer to realizing those benefits.

“Spokane International serves as a vital aerospace hub for the Inland Northwest, moving more than three million passengers and 46,000 tons of cargo last year. With these timely improvements to the runway, air travel in Spokane will be made safer and more efficient.

“I applaud the work done by Inland Northwest businesses and aviation leaders and I look forward to seeing this project upon its completion.”
