Cantwell Statement on Trump Administration’s Plan to Cut Puget Sound Cleanup Budget

Staggering cut will have a devastating impact on the health and economy of Puget Sound

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released a statement on President Trump’s draft budget proposal that would cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) budget for Puget Sound cleanup by 93 percent from $28 million to $2 million:

“Washington state’s economy depends on a healthy Puget Sound. From struggling salmon fisheries, declining orca populations, and massive shellfish die-offs from ocean acidification – slashing Puget Sound recovery funding shows a blatant disregard for our environment. A failure to confront the environmental challenges the Sound faces will have disastrous consequences for our economy.”
