Senator Cantwell Responds to DOJ Decision To Drop Efforts to Break Up Microsoft

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) today issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Justice's decision not to pursue a breakup of Microsoft Corp. as part of its antitrust lawsuit against the company. Senator Cantwell is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senator Cantwell's statement:

"I hope the Justice Department's decision not to pursue a break up of Microsoft will lead to a faster and less contentious resolution of the case.

"I encourage both the Justice Department and Microsoft to continue moving toward a fair and reasonable settlement that will resolve this case without the need for further litigation.

"Microsoft is a global leader in an industry that has revolutionized the way people live, work and learn. The company's current legal issues should not overshadow its long record of innovation and providing creative solutions for businesses and consumers worldwide."
