U.S. Senate sets day of remembrance for Hanford workers

The U.S. Senate has designated Oct. 30 as a national day of remembrance for nuclear weapons program workers at Hanford and elsewhere.

The Senate resolution was cosponsored by Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash.

Nuclear workers pushed the limits of scientific discovery and helped keep the nation safe, sometimes at the expense of their own health and safety, Cantwell said.

“I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure America’s nuclear weapons workers and their families get access to the health care and benefits that they have earned,” she said in a statement.
