Cantwell Statement on Air Force's Recent Resignations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) issued the following statement following the announcement of the reported resignations of Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne and Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley.
“I am very concerned by the shakeup in Air Force leadership. From maintaining effective control of nuclear weapons and components to major procurement decisions, the Air Force has serious responsibilities that are critical to our national security. The Air Force’s lack of accountability and oversight has been extremely troubling.
“I am glad that Secretary Gates accepted Secretary Wynne and General Moseley’s resignations, and I commend his decision to create a senior-level task force to recommend improvements needed to ensure accountability and control of nuclear weapons. Congress must now play a strong oversight role.”
