Cantwell Statement on Senate Trumpcare Bill CBO Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its report of Senate Republicans’ Trumpcare legislation. U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) made the following statement in response to the report.

“The non-partisan CBO confirms the Senate Trumpcare bill doubles down on mean. The bill will tear health insurance away from 15 million Medicaid patients while handing out tax cuts to the wealthiest. The Republican Trumpcare bill will also have devastating effects by raising costs and leaving more than 22 million Americans without health coverage overall.

“Many of our rural hospital patients use Medicaid.  Many of these hospitals and clinics are now concerned they won’t be able to survive.

“I will continue to fight Trumpcare at every opportunity.”

Since Trumpcare was unveiled in the House, Cantwell has sounded the alarm on how the bill’s cuts to Medicaid would hurt people in the Northwest and throughout the country. She has partnered with patients and patient advocates, hospitals, veterans groups, and other advocacy organizations at events throughout Washington state and in the halls of Congress to make clear what is at stake for the American people if Trumpcare is allowed to pass.
